Reporting to the Patient Care Manager, the Pediatric Hematology, Oncology, Blood and Marrow Transplant and Immunology Day Treatment Unit (HDTU) Nurse Practitioner (NP) functions as an integral member of the healthcare team.
HDTU is a fast-paced active treatment environment that includes the provision of scheduled therapies and the assessment and treatment of Hematology, Oncology and BMT emergencies. The HDTU NP will also work closely with a well-established group of Advanced Practice Nurses within the HOTI program. This is a new role within HDTU, which will require an initial needs assessment and time investment to fully develop and implement the role in collaboration with program leadership.
The principle focus of this position will be in clinical practice. The NP will provide consistent support for the nursing team and patient care in the HDTU by removing obstacles that impede the flow of patient care. The NP will also provide support for unplanned/urgent appointments by completing assessments, procedures, orders, interpretation of tests and the development and implementation of plans of care for these unexpected patients.
The secondary focus for this position would be as a Program Facilitator for vulnerable populations that access care within the HOTI program to improve care access and health equity for these patients and their families. Furthermore, this role will provide teaching and support to HDTU team members, patients and their families. A close working relationship is required between all members of the multi-disciplinary health care team.
The successful candidate will show proficiencies in organization, critical thinking, communication and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to demonstrate strong leadership attributes. Quality improvement, change management skills and adaptability are required to be a successful team member within the HOTI Clinics.
Successful completion of an approved NP Program with a Pediatric or family/all ages Permit. Master of Nursing degree. Registration with the CRNA as a NP. BLS certification.
Pediatric NP experience within last 5 yrs. NP experience in Hem/Onc/BMT/Immunology within last 5 yrs. 5yrs acute pediatric nursing experience (Hem/Onc/BMT or ICU). NP skills with procedures such as CVL’s, IV’s, blood draws, IT chemo. APHON cert. PALS Cert. Experience with cultural competency, health equity and the care of vulnerable populations. Recent within the last 5 years acute care NP clinical experience. Desktop IT skills with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
