Alberta Health Services (AHS) has an exciting opportunity to join the Stollery Children’s Hospital as a Nurse Practitioner – Pediatric Cardiology based in Edmonton, Alberta. The Stollery Children’s Hospital is the primary acute care centre for children in the Edmonton Area and Western Canada’s referral centre for pediatric cardiac surgery as well as being a national leader in organ transplantation. Since it opened in 2001, the Stollery developed as a specialized site with expertise and programs to ensure children who require inpatient services receive the best care possible. Highly-skilled child health professionals from around the world have made the Stollery a well-recognized center for specialized pediatric services.

The Pediatric Cardiology program provides specialized medical and surgical care for children who require the following clinical management: Children with medical disorders including cardiac complications. Children with congenital cardiac defects that require ongoing surgical repair and medical management. Children who have had heart transplant surgery, or therapies which bridge to transplant including left ventricular assist devices (LVAD), Berlin Heart. Interventional and electrophysiological cardiac catheterization procedures. Functioning independently and in collaboration with a multidisciplinary clinical team, the Nurse Practitioner works collaboratively with Physicians, residents, and/or fellows with primary responsibility to contribute to the medical plan of care in consultation with the most responsible Physician as well as performs comprehensive diagnosis, intervention, management, referral, and evaluation through continuum of services. The incumbent will be expected to contribute as required to development of policy, procedure and support education, and clinical research in the context of best practice and family centered care.


Required Qualifications:
Master of Science in Nursing Degree supplemented by completion of a recognized Nurse Practitioner Program in the Child Health or Family all ages stream. Active registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). The NP is responsible for ensuring that his/her registration is current, valid and entered on the NP Roster of the CARNA under the Health Professions Act. Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).A minimum of 3 years of full time (or equivalent number of hours) clinical Pediatric or Cardiology experience as a Registered Nurse.

Preferred Qualifications:
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification. Pediatric Cardiology Registered Nurse experience. Pediatric Nurse Practitioner recent graduates from an accredited program will be considered.
