SUMMARY:2023 Critical Care Oncology Symposium
DESCRIPTION:Date & LocationMonday\, April 24\, 2023\, 7:00 AM – Tuesday\, April 25\, 2023\, 4:00 PM\, Zuckerman Research Center\, 417 East 68th Street\, New York\, NY  \n\n\n\nSpecialties \n\n\n\nSpecialties – Anesthesiology\, Critical Care\, Emergency Medicine \, Hospitalist\, Internal Medicine\, Medical Oncology\, Nurse Practitioner\, Nursing\, Oncology and Hematology\, Physician Assistant\, Pulmonary Medicine\, Respiratory Therapy\, Sleep Medicine \n\n\n\nOverview \n\n\n\nThis annual Symposium is designed to provide a general overview of various critical care and oncology topics\, including oncologic emergencies\, ethical dilemmas\, ARDS\, and cardiovascular compromise in the critical care setting. This Symposium is intended for nurse practitioners\, physician assistants\, nurses\, respiratory therapists\, physicians\, and other healthcare professionals interested in critical care. \n\n\n\nDAY 1\, Lectures (in-person or virtual) \n\n\n\nThe first day will include a series of didactic lectures – available in-person or virtually – with ample time for Q&A after each presentation. At the conclusion of the day\, attendees will be able to: \n\n\n\n\nDescribe diagnosis and management of hypoglycemic patients\n\n\n\nIdentify common ethical dilemmas when caring for the critically ill patient\n\n\n\nDelineate types of hyponatremia and corresponding treatment algorithms\n\n\n\nHighlight causes of hemodynamic compromise and cardiovascular emergencies in the oncology population\n\n\n\n\nDAY 2\, Optional Hands-on Workshops (in-person only) \n\n\n\nThe second day will include two optional simulation workshops focused on either ultrasonography or respiratory techniques. The day two workshop are available in-person only (no virtual option is available)\, and an additional fees do apply. \n\n\n\nUltrasound Workshop \n\n\n\n Point-of-care ultrasound is now an indispensable tool for emergency and critical care providers. The ultrasound workshop is aimed at helping providers gain a foundational understanding of point-of-care ultrasound and basic skills to acquire and interpret ultrasound images. This workshop will have portions of didactic\, guided image interpretations\, and supervised hands-on image acquisition on live models.  \n\n\n\nBy attending the Ultrasound Workshop\, attendees will be able to:  \n\n\n\n\nSummarize the indications of point of care ultrasonography; \n\n\n\nDiscuss basic principles of vascular\, thoracic\, and cardiac ultrasonography; \n\n\n\nPractice basic hands-on ultrasound image acquisition skills; and\n\n\n\nRecognize gross ultrasonograpic abnormalities of common pathologies.\n\n\n\n\nRespiratory Workshop* \n\n\n\n Respiratory care is the mainstay of modern critical care medicine. The respiratory workshop is aimed at helping healthcare providers gain knowledge in various ventilator modes and other modalities such as HFNC and non-invasive ventilation.  \n\n\n\nBy attending the Respiratory Workshop\, attendees will be able to:  \n\n\n\n\nDescribe common modes of ventilation\, frequently used ventilator settings\, and troubleshooting techniques; and \n\n\n\nDiscuss basic principles and strategies to improve ventilation and oxygenation in critically ill patients.\n\n\n\n\n*Please note that AARC contact hours are available for the respiratory workshop only. This educational activity is endorsed by The Nurse Practitioner Association New York State. We are pleased to offer a 20% discount for NPA members to attend this program.
