SUMMARY:UBC Tropical and Geographic Medicine Intensive Short Course
DESCRIPTION:Description\n\n\n\nCourse registration is now open for the University of British Columbia’s annual week-long course for physicians\, medical trainees\, public health practitioners\, nurses\, nurse practitioners\, and other healthcare professionals who intend to practice in the tropics\, resource-limited settings\, or who require an update on infectious\, parasitic and other major tropical diseases. \n\n\n\nThrough on-site or virtual interactive lectures\, small-group case-based discussions and practical laboratory teaching\, attendees will learn:A clinical approach to the evaluation and management of tropical diseases;Practical laboratory skills\, with a focus on the identification of parasites important for the diagnosis of tropical diseases;Public health principles and applications including outbreak management. \n\n\n\nBoth formats of participation will have a companion online course that is hosted on the UBC Learning Management System called Canvas. SUMMARY:Comprendre et traiter la vulnérabilité climatique des personnes handicapées
DESCRIPTION:Les personnes handicapées sont touchées de manière disproportionnée par les effets de la crise climatique dans le monde entier. Elles sont plus nombreuses à perdre la vie lors d’événements météorologiques graves tels que les vagues de chaleur ou les ouragans. Leur santé\, leur sécurité et leur accès aux biens et aux services essentiels sont également gravement menacés par les perturbations graduelles du climat comme l’augmentation des températures. La vulnérabilité climatique accrue des personnes handicapées n’est toutefois ni inévitable ni naturelle. De nombreuses données et études de cas démontrent que les effets disproportionnés des changements climatiques sur les personnes handicapées sont le résultat des barrières économiques\, sociales et institutionnelles auxquelles ces personnes doivent faire face dans la société\, ainsi que de leur exclusion des initiatives d’adaptation climatique. \n\n\n\nS’appuyant sur le modèle des droits humains en matière de handicaps\, le professeur Jodoin soutiendra comment les acteurs gouvernementaux sont en mesure d’évaluer et de minimiser les préjudices climatiques subis par les personnes handicapées ainsi que d’impliquer ce groupe dans la planification de l’adaptation en tant qu’expert et acteur de changement. Une approche de l’adaptation climatique qui tient compte du handicap est non seulement essentielle pour protéger la vie et la sécurité des personnes handicapées\, mais aussi primordiale pour renforcer la résilience climatique de la société dans son ensemble.
