December 2024 Featured NP – Sarah Colgan
Recipient of a 2024 NP Award of Excellence, Sarah Colgan is described by peers as a strong clinician, reliable colleague and resource to those around her. She is well established in her role, is known for working collaboratively, and routinely provides mentorship to students and novice NPs. Sarah started her career as an NP when there were very few positions available in Nova Scotia, working temporary positions in Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery. In 2017, she started her current position in Primary Care at Woodlawn Medical Clinic.
One of her notable achievements includes working collaboratively with other health care professionals to establish breastfeeding resources and supports at Woodlawn Medical Clinic during the COVID19 pandemic.
Sarah is caring, empathetic and well liked by her patients. It is not uncommon to run into people in the community singing her praises. While she is devoted to her role as an NP, she has the ability to maintain boundaries and promote work/life balance. This alone is a huge achievement given her professional commitments and dedication to her family ‚specifically coaching her daughter’s ringette teams.
Sarah was one of a select few applicants accepted into the Queens University PhD program where she is currently continuing her education, all while maintaining clinical practice.
