NPAC Membership

Membership in Canada’s national Nurse Practitioner advocacy association builds individual and collective leadership for the Nurse Practitioner profession. The NP is growing in Canada and our voice influences care for patients. Membership provides an avenue to work with leaders and change agents across our country. 

Become a member if you want to be involved and have national opportunities.  We have over 10,000 licensed NPs in Canada and we/you need NPAC-AIIPC to be empowered, unified with a strong voice to influence health care delivery to all populations in all health care settings. You want to be a part of this!

Instructions

In order for your membership application to be processed, you must:

  • Complete the application in full
  • Pay all applicable fees
  • Ensure you select the province at the beginning of the application where you wish to have a membership. This is particularly important for Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia individuals where NPAC has an affiliation agreement.

New Brunswick – NPNB (November 1 – October 31)
Prince Edward Island – PEINPA (August 1 – July 31)

As a member of the NPAC, you are supporting:

  • Representation of NPs across Canada through provincial block partnerships and individual membership opportunities.
  • Partnerships with leading researchers and other stakeholders to advocate for  NP issues including role development and evolution, education, policy development, and pertinent legislation changes.

NPAC is seeking dedicated members to fill the following Board of Directors positions:

Submission: Please send your nomination, including a brief bio and statement of interest via the NPAC nomination form on the Members Only section of our website.

Attend and take part in the Annual General Meeting – have your voice heard.

A member with full voting and membership privileges is a nurse practitioner who:

  • registered to practice in Canada,
  • resides in any province or territory in Canada,
  • supports the mission of the Corporation, AND
  • pays the prescribed fee ($50/year).

A member who does not hold voting privileges and is a

  • student pursuing a Nurse Practitioner designation and has NOT had experience in a Nurse Practitioner role
  • OR a retired nurse practitioner
  • OR has nurse practitioner registration but does not live in Canada
  • AND supports the mission of the Corporation
  • AND pays the prescribed fee ($20/year).

A member with full voting and membership privileges except the right to hold office. Honorary Membership shall be granted to a Regular member:

  • whose active participation and longstanding membership in the Corporation warrants such respect, AND;
  • who is recognized by Members for their contributions to Nurse Practitioner practice, AND;
  • who wishes to accept the status of Honorary Member.

Regular membership (full voting privileges) is conferred on all individuals who join the NPAC-AIIPC via block membership AND meet Regular Member qualifications. Block membership is acquired through a Provincial/Territorial Partnership or through a Block Membership application.

1) I am a licensed nurse practitioner (NP) in Canada. Does this mean I am a member of the Nurse Practitioner Association of Canada (NPAC)?
No, licensure as a NP with a regulatory college in Canada does not include membership with NPAC.

2) Does registration with the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) mean I’m a member of the Nurse Practitioner Association of Canada (NPAC)?
No, registration with the CNA does not include membership with NPAC.

3) I am a member of the New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia or Prince Edward Island NP Association. What does this mean with regard to NPAC membership?
If you are a member of one of these four NP Associations in the Maritime provinces, you are automatically a member of the NPAC as the Maritime NP associations partnered with NPAC to offer block membership.

4) Outside of the Maritimes, is NPAC membership paid through provincial associations?
No, NPs must sign-up individually for membership with NPAC if they live in the following provinces or territories: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Yukon, Northwest Territories, or Nunavut.

5) How do I become a member?
To become a member, you can join directly through our member portal.

6) What are the different membership types available through the NPAC?
The four different types are Regular, Associate, Honorary Life, and Block membership (maritime provinces only). To learn more about these, please visit our website.

7) How long is my membership valid for from the time I join the NPAC?
Regular and Associate memberships are valid for one year from the initial (re)registration date. Block membership expiration dates vary by province. These expire on the set renewal date for the block, regardless of when individual members register. Honorary Life memberships do not expire.

8) Does my membership auto-renew once it expires?
At this time, we are not able to support membership auto-renewals once they expire. All returning members must renew their NPAC every year through our member portal.

9) I cannot remember if I am an active member of the NPAC. How can I check my membership status?
You can check if you are an active member of the NPAC by logging into the member portal with the email you used to sign-up. Download your membership card (accessible on the left-hand side of your profile) and check the expiry date. If your membership is still valid, you are an active member of the NPAC. If you forgot your password, choose forgot password and a link will be sent to you to reset it.

10) I do not have NPAC membership and cannot log into the member portal. What does this mean?
This means that you are not a member of the NPAC. To join, please click on the “Apply Now” link in the member portal to begin your application.

11) What are the benefits of being a member of the NPAC?

The NPAC also regularly engages members on current advocacy work, education opportunities, career opportunities, and news relevant to Canadian NPs. We will keep members updated on additional new benefits as they become available.

12) I heard about various national leadership and committee opportunities through the NPAC. Do I have to be a member to get involved?
Yes, you must be an active member of the NPAC to get involved in our national leadership and committee opportunities.
