Join us for an informative and interactive session to connect with the Nurse Practitioner Leadership Team and Medical Staff Talent Acquisition Advisors to learn about our post-graduate Advanced Education Programs and career opportunities across diverse practice settings.
VCH has NPs working in over 150 positions across a variety of practice settings within acute, primary care, long-term care, urgent and primary care centres, and ambulatory care, covering both urban and rural & remote areas, and our workforce continues to grow.
A two-day workshop designed to ignite interest in a different way to think, talk, and do diabetes, based upon a foundation of hope, empowerment, and equity. The workshop is designed for connection and sharing with one another and will prompt thinking around opportunities for better outcomes and a better future for people with diabetes and how each one of us can make a difference.
Learning objectives include:
– Consider community and social determinant of health based approaches to diabetes prevention and screening, for the faces yet to come
– Brainstorm current assets and build bridges to address current gaps
– Discuss empowered language and approaches to keeping the blood flowing including traditional approaches (mother nature physiology, traditional foods, traditional medicines, and cultural activities)
– Learn about current state of the art tools and technologies available today for diabetes self-management
– Discuss the many influences on individual and societal relationships with food and ways to support a joyful and comfortable approach to food for diabetes
– Draw on your own experiences to create options for optimal diabetes care
– Learn why current approaches to diabetes care perpetuate the acute/medical care model and how to change this approach
– Improve diabetes knowledge and practical application skills for the real world
– Develop a plan to begin using new skills when you return to work

Presented by Sarah Crowe
Sarah began her nursing career at Surrey Memorial Hospital in 2001, starting in the
Emergency department and transitioning to critical care in 2004. Holding dual
specialty certification in Emergency and Critical Care Nursing, she attained a
Master’s of Nursing in 2010 and assumed leadership roles in Fraser Health. Sarah
expanded her expertise by completing a post-Master’s graduate diploma in Nurse
Practitioner (family) in 2018, establishing the Critical Care Nurse Practitioner role at
Surrey Memorial Hospital. Currently pursuing a PhD in Nursing at UBC, she serves as
the NP Clinician Scientist for Fraser Health, focusing on advancing NP research and
scholarship, with personal research interests in ICU survivorship and supporting the
wellbeing of healthcare teams.
This webinar will focus on practical ways to support women in getting care sooner, improving communication and triage processes in emergency departments, and addressing the strain on our healthcare system to improve outcomes.
There will be a live question and answer session at the end of the webinar, allowing participants to ask questions directly to the panelists.
